10 video games to discover before the release of the Disney+ series

Obi Wan Kenobi will soon arrive on Disney+ accounts around the world and star wars fans eagerly await the character’s return to the screen. There are plenty of ways to get excited about the show, from reading the fantastic comics available, to jumping into the expanded material and of course, watching the previous films.

For those who enjoy living out their stories through video games, there are a number of Canon and Legends titles to check out, which help create this world in more detail and might even influence the narrative in Kenobi. The galaxy far, far away has so many video games to explore, but these seem the most relevant and should get fans excited!

Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series (2019)

Immortal Vader Trailer

While not everyone wants to jump straight into a VR experience, this Canon title, available on both Oculus and PlayStation VR platforms, is a staple in lore-building for the titular antagonist. Vader never looked more terrifying than in this tale of intense gameplay.

Darth Vader will play a huge role in the Obi Wan Kenobi show and this mythology-based title is going to help establish what Vader has really been up to in those years since he met Kenobi. Key locations like the Sith Lord’s castle on Mustafar are fleshed out here and will likely reappear on screen soon!

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (2019)

Star Wars Jedi Fall Order 2 rumored 2023 release

Respawn Entertainment has crafted a Canon game that, on the face of it, isn’t particularly tied to any other project within the star wars universe, instead telling an original story. However, it is set during the height of the Empire and sees the young Jedi, Cal Kestis, protecting the Order from being completely wiped out.

Jedi: Fallen Order boasts a story that’s a lot like protecting Obi-Wan from Luke Skywalker, allowing the potential of his future to progress. The Sith Inquisitors make an appearance here, much like they will in Kenobi, and it’s plausible that the Disney+ show even has a cameo of Kestis himself!

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (2008)

Star Wars The Force Unleashed Xbox Motion Blur

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is one of the most popular Legends video games, due to the complex development of its protagonist, Galen Marek, and his role as Darth Vader’s apprentice. The story was full of surprising twists and led to a brilliant choice for players to make.

The Aspyr, LucasArts, Krome Studios, n-Space, THQ, Cameron Suey, Universomo, and Activision title is definitely worth seeking out for its inventive gameplay and excellent writing. Starkiller’s role was somewhat tied to Inquisitors, but there’s always a chance Marek could be reborn on screen, maybe even in Kenobi.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars – Republic Heroes (2009)

Star Wars The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes with Obi-Wan

The Krome Studios and LucasArts game isn’t among the studios’ top titles, but it’s great fun for younger kids star wars fans to enjoy. It’s based on the animated series of the same name, which became so famous for its development of Obi-Wan Kenobi and his personal conflicts.

For fans of the series, this might be a good time to dive in, as the game outlines the kind of missions audiences can expect from a filler episode of the series. The Clone Wars should play a huge role in influencing Kenobi, so it’s sure to put people in the mood for a bit more of the conflict that set up the show to begin with.

Star Wars Battlefront II (2017)

New Star Wars FPS game should be Clone Wars ARC Troopers Battlefront 2

The beauty of DICE battle front series is that it covers the entire Skywalker saga. Although the original installments were complete classics and the first reboot was enjoyable, the final form of Battlefront II is now considered among the best in the series. Its single-player campaign alone is a brilliant addition to Canon.

As fans eagerly await the third entry, it is important to note the importance of this type of game on Kenobi. The series depicts the conclusion of the Clone Wars and the heyday of the Empire, with Kenobi introduced as a character. This title will definitely help set the tone and vibe of the Disney+ show.

Star Wars: Republic Commando (2005)

Delta Squad from Star Wars Republic Commando

When it comes to the clone conflicts that established Kenobi as such a masterful warrior, there’s one title that tells a new story during this time. The Aspyr and LucasArts game is considered part of the Legends timeline for now, but the squadron at the heart of Republic Commando appeared in The Clone Wars.

Indeed, Kenobi is briefly involved in the narration of this title! There could simply be flashbacks to the war throughout the series and including a group like Delta Squad would further anchor all of these expanding elements in continuity. It is unclear what the Empire would have such an elite group do, once they had control of the Clones.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (2003)

KOTOR Remake would have new game modes

It looks like Obi-Wan Kenobi is getting retrospective on chess and the teachings of the Jedi. The Disney+ show will see him live after his collapse, but it’s not the first time the Sith have risen before. Knights of the Old Republic definitely needs to be revisited by star wars Fans.

The BioWare, Aspyr, Obsidian Entertainment, EA, and LucasArts game sets up a lot of Jedi lore that Kenobi could now explore and looks quite similar to the upcoming show. The game was groundbreaking in the way it allowed audiences to make such important choices and the remake of KOTOR just can’t come soon enough. With this release on the way, Disney might want to tie the Old Republic era back into canon, with shows like Kenobi.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga (2022)

Upcoming Star Wars Games - LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

There is very little star wars video games that have been as universally praised as The LEGO Skywalker Saga from TT Games. In fact, some levels of the title were considered better representations of major sequences than even the movies had put together thanks to its comedic storyline and stunning visuals.

Either way, for those wanting to relive Kenobi’s earlier adventures ahead of the Disney+ release, then this is definitely the game for the job. New controls and graphics help bring older games to life, with this reboot of the series bringing so many new and unique elements to the table.

Star Wars: Bounty Hunter (2002)

Jango Fett appearing in the video game Star Wars: Bounty Hunter

Obi-Wan Kenobi has a pretty rocky relationship with Bounty Hunters. He battled Jango Fett, worked alongside Cad Bane, and survived numerous assassination attempts. His journey to discover the clone army actually begins as a familiar bounty hunter.

Indeed, Jango Fett is at the forefront of Star Wars: Bounty Hunter directly related to the events of Attack of the Clones. The narrative of this LucasArts Legends game will continue to have some influence on the galaxy far, far away. Kenobi now sees the consequences of what happened, and it’s entirely plausible that Fett’s own heir could resurface for revenge against the Jedi.

Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005)

Anakin and Obi-Wan battle droids in Star Wars Episode III Revenge Of The Sith game

Not all video game adaptations are successful. The version of Revenge of the Sith what was put on consoles left a lot to be desired, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a retro trip down memory lane. The Ubisoft, Lucasarts and THQ Wireless project is a fairly faithful adaptation of what was seen on screen.

It’s a different way to relive the events leading up to the Jedi’s downfall, given that this narrative will be the primary driving force behind Kenobi! There are also some cool moments to fight against friends in the game, which makes this title interesting to discover in co-op, especially for those who want to play as the Jedi Master!
