Obi-Wan Flashback BTS Image Shows Anakin With Order 66 Clone Troopers

A new behind-the-scenes image from the set of Obi-Wan Kenobi shows Anakin Skywalker with the Clone Troopers who marched on the Jedi Temple.

A new behind-the-scenes image of Obi Wan Kenobi shows Hayden Christensen with the 501st Clone Troopers. 17 years later Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith hit theaters, Christensen recently made his return as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader in the Disney+ limited series. In addition to catching up with Ewan McGregor’s “Ben” and his deceased apprentice, Obi Wan Kenobi revisits Order 66. In flashbacks, Anakin/Vader is shown flanked by an army of the 501st Clone Troopers storming the Jedi Temple ala Revenge of the Sith.

During the Clone Wars, the 501st was a special division of the Galactic Republic military led by their general, Anakin, Captain Rex, and occasionally Ahsoka Tano. The battalion is shown in the animated series The Clone Wars and Revenge of the Sith. After Palpatine executes Order 66 and Anakin falls to the dark side, Vader and Commander Appo lead the 501st “Legion” to the Jedi Temple to slaughter the Jedi and youth – which is shown from the POV by Reva in Obi Wan Kenobi.

NatePMMA on Twitter recently shared an image of Christensen wearing his Jedi robes alongside the 501st. While the Clone Troopers were depicted as CGI models in the Star Wars prequel films, Obi Wan Kenobi used real armor. Check it out below:

Seeing all of these not-so-familiar faces might be strange for fans accustomed to Temura Morrison-like clones in the galaxy far, far away. That said, Boba Fett’s Book The actor made a cameo appearance in Episode 2. While the Empire has stopped using clones, Morrison is seen as a veteran soldier in Obi Wan Kenobi begging for credits on the streets of Daiyu. The clone is still wearing his 501st armor, meaning he was part of the battalion that marched on the Jedi Temple.

The inclusion of 501st specifically in Obi Wan Kenobi is significant of The Clone Wars fans who associate the armor with the countless times they’ve seen it under Matt Lanter’s Anakin’s command. Following his work on The Clone WarsDave Filoni has started work on Disney+’s first live-action series, The Mandalorianwhich has greatly contributed to bridging the gap between star wars movies and animations. Suffice it to say, Obi Wan Kenobi would not exist on Disney+ without the success of The Mandalorian. Now audiences can’t wait to see more of Christensen’s Anakin in the next Ahsoka series if the casting rumors are true. Hopefully they get to see the pair together for the first time in live-action. As fans wait to find out if Obi Wan Kenobi season 2 is renewed, all six episodes are available for streaming.
